Some people think that tax assessments is what the true value of their home is, and that's not really the case. The difficulty here is that assessments are based on a number of key points that don't relate to a market value of a home.
So, if you look at your tax bill and you notice that the tax assessment for your home is a lot less than what you think your home would sell on the market for, don't freak out. Actually, as a matter of fact, you don't want the city, the tax guys, to assess your market value for a lot higher, because then your property taxes are going to be higher.
So, the true value of your home is not the tax value of your home. Market value is based on sold prices.
